School Quarantine: COVID-19 Protocol Reminder *Must Read*

Dear NCWC Families,

As cases are slowly rising throughout Fairfield County, we want to make sure that all NCWC travel hockey families remember the NCWC Covid-19 protocols:

  • If a child shows signs/symptoms of Covid-19, that child MUST take a PCR test. A negative rapid test will NOT be accepted because a rapid test is not as accurate as a PCR test.

  • If a child is asked to quarantine from school, that child may NOT participate in NCWC activities until the quarantine period has ended. This includes, but is not limited to, all games, practices, skills sessions, and other off-ice team activities.

  • If a child is asked to quarantine due to “close contact” from school AND has a sibiling/(s) in the NCWC program then:

    • the “close contact” quarantined child must be tested. If the “close contact” child has NO SYMPTOMS, then a negative rapid test is acceptable. If the “close contact” child HAS SYMPTOMS, then only a negative PCR test is acceptable. Again, a rapid test is not as accurate as a PCR test.

    • in order for the sibling/(s), of the quarantined child, to return to any NCWC activities, the initial “close contact” child has to receive a negative test result. ***For example, Jane Doe, who is in 4th grade AND plays on a NCWC Squirt team has an 8th grade brother, John Doe, who has been asked to quarantine from school. Jane cannot attend ANY NCWC activities-regardless if she has completed a negative COVID-19 test- UNTIL her brother, John Doe, tests NEGATIVE***

As mentioned in our previous email, it is very important to remain in contact with your team managers and coaches at all times. In the event of a positive test or “close contact” resulting in quarantine, please also contact Annie Watson (annedwatson35@aol.com), our Player Safety Representative. We need to keep records of who needs to quarantine due to a positive test and/or a “close contact”.

Finally, we would like to remind everyone that it will take a concerted effort by all to keep us safely playing hockey this season. Please redouble your efforts to abide by the rules at all rinks, and especially DIH, including entering/exiting the proper doors, wearing masks, and social distancing always while not on the ice.  Our season is off to a great start, so let’s continue to pull together in order to keep it going.

Sincerely,

HPC
