About Brian Tollberg

An undrafted free agent from the University of North Florida, Tollberg pitched from 2000 through 2003 for the San Diego Padres before injury cut short his career. He began playing professionally in 1994 with the Chillicothe Paints of the independent Frontier League. He was the first Frontier League player to reach the Major Leagues. In honor of the achievement, the League's version of the Cy Young Award is named after him.

After his lone year in the Frontier League, Tollberg signed with the Milwaukee Brewers, playing in their minor league organization from 1995-97 before being traded to the Padres. Tollberg made his first big league appearance in June 2000 with the Padres and, in his first week, was recognized as the national player of the week. He completed his strong start with a 4-5 record and a 3.58 ERA in his rookie season.

The following 2001 season, he won 10 games with a 4.30 ERA before being injured. He played two more seasons for the club.

Along with his professional experience, Brian has deep roots in youth baseball. He currently coaches at Jesuit High School in Tampa, FL. He is also the Director of Player Development for the Palma Ceia Little League in Tampa, FL, and owner of The Tollberg Pitching Academy, a premier teaching organization that helps develop pitching skills. Tollberg is also a highly recommended speaker for the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association.
