Season Modifications Due to COVID19

Health and Safety Notices Regarding COVID19

Updated Message to NCJLA Membership March 19, 2020 (12 Noon PST)

NCJLA Members,

Proactive Coaching had a great post this week that captures how our lacrosse community can help our collective goal of reducing the effects of COVID19. “Things we learn from sport that can help us now...A great challenge can be defeated by great teamwork. It is not just about what the individual wants, it is about what the team needs. We all have a responsibility to the welfare of others. Team First.”

As a lacrosse community we have the opportunity to contribute to the welfare of our communities at an unprecedented level.  We can model teamwork and other positive life lessons that sports provide to both our players and skeptics. After much research, consultation, and discussion, the NCJLA Board of Directors voted to cancel all games and practices through April 12, 2020 to support and protect our community.  It is important not only to advocate for civic responsibility in our players and coaches but to demonstrate it as an organization.

Part of the NCJLA mission is to promote lacrosse competition.  At this time, the NCJLA will continue to evaluate the latest information published regarding COVID19 by the local public health officials, the State of California Department of Public Health, US Lacrosse and of course input from our club leaders. After reviewing information from those sources, the NCJLA Board of Directors will determine possible modifications for the remainder of the season.  Our goal is to allow play if it is safe and permitted by the local authorities in charge of our health. We take this responsibility seriously and appreciate your patience as we take the time to give this the attention it deserves.

On April 6th the NCJLA Board will meet to review the following:

  • April 3rd CIF Commissioners meeting report
  • Individual Club input regarding season modifications
  • Financial impact of a modified season for the league and the individual clubs
  • Recent State of California Public Health Officials Reports and Guidance

What can families and club leaders do now?

We encourage each of you to use the positive character traits developed through sports to help process this cancellation and related events. The Positive Coaching Alliance published an excellent resource this past week: Dealing with Disappointment During the Coronavirus Cancellations and Postponements that can be shared with parents, players, officials and coaches.

In addition, our NCJLA Commissioners are creating a listing of solo drills and workouts that can be used by individual players and club leaders.  These will be distributed via email, posted to our YouTube Channel and the NCJLA Facebook page. If you have an idea or want to post a video of what you are doing please visit @NCJLA on Facebook or send us an email. NCJLA Contacts can be found HERE.

We look forward to getting back on the field to play as soon as it is safe to do so.  Until then, the NCJLA is here as a resource for support and guidance for club leaders and their members.  We highly recommend that club leaders and members refer all questions regarding COVID19 to their local public health authorities. If we use our resilience, grit, determination, and selflessness we can be a positive example to those who need our leadership during this challenge.
