2023 Spring Recreational League (6-8)
Open to Newton residents attending a Newton Public School in Grades 6, 7, and 8. Sorry, the program is not open to non-residents attending a private Newton school.
Please look for the separate registration programs for Grades K/1, Grades 2/3, and Grades 4/5.
SCHEDULE: Opening day is Sunday, April 23th.
Games on Wednesdays at 5:45 pm and Sundays at 5:00 pm. Each team will also have at least one Friday 7:00 pm game in place of that week’s Wednesday game.
No games will be played over Memorial Day weekend.
All-Star games and Annual Family Gala - TBA
Final Sunday games will be played on Sunday, June 11th and championship games will follow that week.
REGISTRATION POLICY*
Fee includes the cost of team uniform: shirt, pants, and socks.The league provides team-shared equipment including RIP-IT face guards, bats, and catchers' gear, although players may choose to purchase some of these items for their own personal use. Batting helmets are not provided at this age level, but the league can loan your player one.
First player is $225. Each additional sibling is $180.
If a partial scholarship is needed to make playing Newton Girls Softball affordable for your family, please contact info@newtongirlssoftball.org. Your request will remain confidential.
Register by January 31, 2023 to avoid a late fee as $25 will be added to the registration fee from January 31, 2023 on. Late fees are capped at $25 per family for the Rec season.
Placement is guaranteed for all registrations received by February 28, 2023. Should a player choose to withdraw, refunds for registered players must be requested by February 28, 2023.
Registrations received after February 28, 2023, will be placed on a waiting list and placement is NOT guaranteed. Openings will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis and a full refund will be issued if a player is not placed on a team.
If your 7th or 8th grader makes a middle school team and that’s just too much softball for your family, you are eligible for a full refund through April 5th.
We are aware that there will be weekday conflicts between Rec and middle school programs and strongly encourage players to prioritize their school team’s events.
League is open to all players who identify as female, non-binary, or questioning.
"PAIR ME WITH" POLICY
If two players would like to be placed on the same team, they must list each other on their registration forms AND both forms must be received by February 28, 2023. Changes to "Pair Me With" requests will be honored if sent via email by February 28, 2023 to the 6-8 Coordinator at grade6-8coordinator@newtongirlssoftball.org.
ATTENDANCE GUIDELINES
Softball is a team sport and part of being a good teammate is attendance. Therefore, we expect players in Grades 6-8 to attend at least 75% of the games and practices. (Games on Wednesdays at 5:45 pm and Sundays at 5:00 pm. Each team will also have at least one Friday night game under the lights at Albemarle in place of that week’s Wednesday game. One practice per week). If you are considering another activity that also requires your attendance on one of your game days, please be fair to yourself and others by selecting only one activity this spring.
