7. Team Registration
Team registration opens the first Saturday in October for all 8U-HS boys and girls teams.
The deadline to register ALL teams with the NCJLA for the season is the first Friday in December 11:00pm PST.
Late registration is considered on a case by case basis and is rarely approved.

In order to establish player registration fees, clubs need to know what the team registration fees will be to the NCJLA per team, and the officials’ fees per game for the coming season. Any changes to fees for a season will be posted to the NCJLA website by late September to give clubs time to incorporate NCJLA fees into their budgets.
Team registration and assessments
Clubs register teams via the NCJLA website. Payment can be made by credit card at the time of registration or by check. Checks must be mailed within seven days after registration or the team registration will be cancelled. Teams that have not paid in full will not be assigned a conference for the scheduling meeting that takes place the second Saturday in December. Club treasurers are strongly encouraged to mail checks as soon as they register teams to be included in scheduling.
Fees by division
NCJLA charges fees per team based on division. Division refers to gender, age level, and competitive level. (Example: Girls U14A is a “division.”) The registration fees include a base fee for each team plus an assessment for those age levels that participate in season-end play, festivals or playoffs. Girls youth teams also have an assessment for the season kick-off event, “Girls Play Day.”

Boys HS varsity, HS JV, 14A, 12A, 10A: 2-3 playoff or flighted tournament games, and Championship game
Girls HS varsity, 14A, and 12A: 2-3 playoff or flighted tournament games, and Championship game
Boys 14U and 12U B Veteran level: 2-3 festival tournament games
Boys 14U and 12U B Rookie level: 2-3 festival tournament games
Girls 14U and 12U B Veteran level: 2 preseason playday and 2-3 festival tournament games
Girls 14U and 12U B Rookie level: 2 preseason playday and 2-3 festival tournament games
Boys and Girls 10UB and 8U level: 2 preseason playday games, preseason coaches and player clinic and 2-3 festival games
Divisions typically offered by the NCJLA:
Boys’ : HS Varsity, HS JV, 14UA, 14UB veteran, 14UB Rookie, 12UA, 12UB Veteran, 12UB Rookie, 10UA, 10UB Veteran, 10UB Rookie, and 8U.
Girls’: HS Varsity, 14UA, 14UB veteran, 14UB Rookie, 12UA, 12UB Veteran, 12UB Rookie, 10UB Veteran, 10UB Rookie, and 8U.
For boys and girls 10U and 8U age levels the teams play in the small sided games format (See US Lacrosse LADM).
At some age levels teams are further divided into A (competitive), B veteran or B rookie when the number of teams registered allows.
Determining Playing Level of the Team Prior to Registration
In order to register teams properly, clubs must determine which competitive levels to field teams. The NCJLA Strength Score Calculation Worksheet (see below) should be completed prior to registering each team. Most clubs hold a fall practice or outreach clinics in October or November to assess the skills, athleticism and commitment level of their players. See below for playing level guidelines. The NCJLA highly recommends that boys and girls 10UB and 8U teams be balanced and formed with a mix of highly skilled/athletic players and new/less athletic peers.

Per-game fees for officials
In addition to team registration fees, Clubs pay officials’ fees to the NCJLA per games scheduled for all divisions except 8U. These fees cover the expense of having officials at every game and are passed through to the officials’ organizations. The fees collected per game cover the fees paid to the officials, assigning fees, travel and administrative expenses of the officials’ organizations.
The NCJLA Treasurer emails invoices to club treasurers in mid-February. These fees are due to the NCJLA by March 1. Failure to submit payment on time could result in officials being removed from your games. Refunds for paid officials’ fees are offered for games that are canceled within NCJLA guidelines (see section 10 Scheduling). Clubs should maintain a record of canceled games and submit with a refund request at the conclusion of the spring season to the NCJLA treasurer (email@example.com) who will verify with the officials assignor and the NCJLA Boys and Girls Directors.
Girls/Boys 10B Referee Policy
Boys and girls 10UB levels may cancel officials assigned to their games via the official’s association assignor(s) (not applicable to other age divisions). Both teams must agree in writing at least 15 days prior to the game to officiate the game like the 8U format (1 coach on the sideline and 1 coach on field as the referee). There is no penalty for teams declining to make this change and opponents should respect that some clubs do not have extra coaches to complete this task on game day. It is strongly recommended that coaches who wish to serve as the 1 coach on the field complete the NCJLA Rules Test and attend an Officials Rule Interpretation session. If the officials assignor is not notified at least 15 days in writing of the cancellation then the NCJLA game cancellation fees apply (see section 15 Officials).

For Boys and Girls 8U & 10UB teams only, the NCJLA will allow late registrations for participation in the Regional Jamborees hosted by the NCJLA (special events in addition to regular season games). The NCJLA will recommend and help facilitate the scheduling of additional games with other clubs nearby should a team want more games than the Jamborees offer. There is no guarantee that teams who register late will be able to secure additional games with other clubs. Please email

Consequences and process for team withdrawal
If a club withdraws a team from the NCJLA after the withdrawal deadline, registration fees will not be returned and the club may be placed on provisional probation for a length of time to be determined by the board of directors. In addition, the club will be required to pay all team registration fees at the time of registration for the next 3 years following the violation. The club will not be able to attend the scheduling meeting until payment is received. See NCJLA’s bylaws for more on provisional probation.
Teams are allowed to cancel registration without penalty until 11:00pm PST on the first Friday in December. Thereafter, no fees will be refunded for cancellations.
