Playing Background: Coach Mabrey is a native of Mckeesport, Pennsylvania, outside of Pittsburgh, where he attended McKeesport Area High School. Nate played four years of high school basketball and 2 years of varsity football. He enrolled at Penn State University attending the McKeesport Branch campus playing intercollegiate basketball becoming a four year starter.

In 2005-2006 season, his team won Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference Championship and finished with the championship MVP. In the summer of 2004, Nate won the Connie Hawkins Summer League Championship. This league is considered to be one of the Top-10 summer leagues in the nation. In an attempt to stay fit, Nate plays in the Capital Alumni Network co-ed basketball league competing against other school alumni.

Coaching Experience: This is Coach Babrey's second year with the Matrix.  He is currently the head coach for the McLean Select Basketball 7th Grade Girls' Division 1 team.  The prior two years he was an assistant coach for Amy Doherty in the Select league for the same team. Nate has coached Girls D2 grades 6 and 7 teams advancing to the playoffs both seasons.  

Coaching Philosophy: Coach Mabrey believes that success is a direct result of hard work. He wants his players to maximize their efforts in every drill and game situations with the understanding that you can always improve what you are good at and develop where you maybe challenged. But, above all else have fun and enjoy the game of basketball!

Personal Background: Coach Mabrey is a contractor for General Dynamics as an Enterprise Systems Administrator for the United States Coast Guard. When not coaching or working, Nate is a 24-hour/7 days per week husband to his wife, Tania. Nate comes from an athletic family as his step-father played basketball for Robert Morris college and Penn State University before playing professionally overseas. Also has two younger (but much-much bigger) brothers who play on the Univ. of Akron Men's basketball team and the Univ. of California Pennsylvania football team respectfully.
