Coach Norton is a native of McLean, where he attended Bishop Dennis J. O’Connell High School. Phil played four years of high school basketball, starting for 2 years on varsity. He attended Wake Forest University for one year where he played varsity basketball. Coach Norton then transferred to Catholic University of America in Washington DC where he played three more years of varsity basketball.
Coach Norton has spent 8 years coaching for Mclean Youth House Basketball, 5 years coaching CYO basketball, coaching three years coaching boys 5th, 6th and 7th grades in the McLean Select league and 3 years coaching girls McLean Select league for 5th, 6th and 7th grades including Select Coach of the Year.
Coach Norton believes that hard work, hustle and defense is the key to success at basketball. He wants his players to work hard, improve on their fundamentals and learn the game while you are playing for him. He will want to develop your skills and have you focus on team in the games.
My wife Michelle and I both grew up in the area. I have two daughters Alexandra (10) and Catherine (5). I grew up in McLean, played youth sports in McLean as did all of my brothers. I come from an athletic family with my father playing varsity football and lacrosse at the Naval Academy and two uncles playing Division 1 football at the University of North Carolina and one of my younger brothers played varsity basketball at St. Albans.
