What if I have never skated before?
Never skated before?  No Problem, we have excellent Learn to Skate and Learn to Play Hockey Programs where you can progress through skating lessons and be advanced to a team when you are ready. If you eventually wish to play hockey, then join the Learn to Play Hockey program, if you wish to become a figure skater, then join the Learn to Skate Program.  They are similar in format in the early stages of development.

Am I going to be an aggravation to more advanced players on the ice?
Absolutely not!  We welcome everyone and you will see that our teams and skating programs have a wide range of skill levels on the ice.  You will fit right in.  We work hard to help make everyone better and you will find the more skilled players very willing to help you. You will get better much faster than you anticipate.

Are the Sunday night Adult Developmental sessions open to pure beginners?
Yes! These evening sessions are provided by the rink and the coaches are supplied by NIHA. It is a pay per evening format so there is no long term commitment. The pure beginner with limited skating skill to the intermediate player is who this program was developed for. It is a ½ hour instructional session coupled with a 1 hour scrimmage. This is valuable ice time for the beginner! Wee to week with the help of your coaches you will begin to pick up skating skill and a strategic understanding of ice hockey. The coaches will direct players to other programs as well for continued development if you desire.

How do I know when I have progressed enough to advance to league play?
Your skating instructors will advise when they think you are ready to advance to a team.  Once you learn the basics, you will be introduced to a coach to have you progress to his team.  Your fees will even be pro-rated to correspond to when you join the team!

Are there men’s and women’s beginner programs?
We have beginner programs for all age levels, and as your skills increase we will promote you to a more challenging class and eventually advise you are ready to join a team! We have a pathway for entry into the sport from scratch for boys, girls, men and women!

What are the costs associated with hockey?
While hockey is sometimes viewed as an expensive sport, we do everything we can to keep the costs of hockey affordable for our membership.   As our membership grows the costs for all participants’ decreases.  We use grant funds to obtain low cost equipment and can loan you this equipment at no cost (depending on availability).   You will have season fees that cover the cost of your lessons or team fees that cover the costs of your practices and games.  Lesson fees average about $100 per session and team fees can range from $450 for younger players to $905 per season for older players.  Adult team fees are about $195 per 12 week session.

How do I learn the basic rules of ice hockey?
Your membership with USA Hockey is required ($45), but includes a terrific rulebook to help jump start your knowledge of the rules of Ice Hockey.  In addition your instructors and coaches will be reviewing all the necessary rules as a part of the practice plans.
Is body checking allowed in the NAHL program?
Body Checking is not allowed in the Adult Men’s or Women’s League.  This is a recreational program with the emphasis on fun and sportsmanship.  We have a Player handbook that outlines the policies of the League and strict guidelines prohibit checking in any form.
