Welcome to the Newark Women's Developmental Hockey League!
We will post news and other information here before and during the season to keep everyone updated with current events.
Information
- Cost per person for the Fall session is $185.
- We will have a free clinic for everyone interested on Sunday, October 11 from 6-8pm.
- The clinic will serve as our season kickoff. I think it would be fun to meet afterward at Pizza Cottage or the Grill.
- The Fall 2009 session will run from October 11 through January 10, with two weeks off during Christmas/New Year (12/27 and 1/3).
- The Fall 2009 session will consist of the free clinic on October 11, two games each Sunday, playoff games on December 20 and the championship/consolation games on January 10.
- The Winter 2010 session will immediately begin the following week (January 17) with a free clinic.
- We have ordered new jerseys (thanks, Kirsten!) which eventually (if not immediately for the Fall 2009 session) will include Juli's spiffy NWDHL logo on the front.
- You will be able to find the complete Fall 2009 game schedule on the NWDHL Schedule page.
- ***Schedulers note: Times are up on the site, but as the format has not been determined yet the schedule is not complete.
Registration
Changes
- We are looking to make some minor changes in format this session. Please let me know what you think of these as they are only ideas at this point:
- Calling offsides for the beginner lines. This will result in a change of puck possession, just as it works already with the intermediate lines. No stress :)
- Faceoffs on goals only. This may help people better learn how to line up for faceoffs. Since it takes place after a scored goal, the faceoff would always take place at the same spot (mid ice). It will add a bit more time to each game, but not much.
- Bench coaches - we would like to recruit a bench coach (someone not on the team, probably some spouses/significant others who also play hockey) for each team to help players during the games.
- Warm-up drills - for 10-15 minutes before each game, the bench coaches would lead the teams in warm-up drills. This will serve not only to get players ready for the game, but provide some time to work on basic skating and hockey skills each week.
Upcoming NIHA events
- Adult Fundamentals - started Monday, September 21 8-8:50pm. Fundamentals will be on Monday nights for the Fall session.
- Columbus Blue Jackets 50/50 raffle - this is a fundraiser event on Friday, October 30 during the game vs. Pittsburgh. Participants will sell raffle tickets during the game. NIHA will receive 50% of the proceeds from this fundraiser.
- If the NWDHL is able to get enough volunteers for this event, NIHA may be able to pay for all or part of our jersey costs, which would then be refunded to players--so there is your motivation :) Please let me know
if you or others you know are interested.
- Hockey Night in Columbus - Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, November 7. If you are interested in attending, let me know. We can get discounted tickets through NIHA.
