2008 6th annual Hot-Dish Tournament Announcement
Mark Hellenack - Tournament Director, (952) 938-2723 hm/off
The MN Chapter of US Lacrosse is proud to announce it is partnering with the MN Swarm to bring you the 2008 Hot-Dish Classic Lacrosse Tournament, a fund raiser for the American Cancer Society. Games will be played on Saturday & Sunday, Oct 11-12th at the National Sports Center (NSC) in Blaine, MN. This event celebrates Minnesota lacrosse, the Hot-dish casserole (our State’s symbol of comfort food) and supports the fight against cancer. In addition to the two Men’s College divisions and Boys HS division we have added a (highly competitive) Boys HS Travel Team division, and a Boys 6-8th Middle School division, plus the West Point vs. Notre Dame game and other events to enhance the event.
HOT-DISH EVENTS….In addition to the anticipated 40 teams and 10 fields being used for lacrosse games both days there are several exciting events going on.Once again fans are encouraged to bring a Hot-Dish casserole to the Hot-Dish judging contest (5 new categories) held on Sunday afternoon which will be followed by the $5.00 all-you-can eat Smorgasbord for players and fans. There will also be a Vendor Village with a variety of vendors and a Silent Auction with items donated from local businesses, fans, vendors and sponsors.
NOTRE DAME vs. WEST POINT….We are also excited to announce that division one Men’s lacrosse is coming to Minnesota for the first time. The new ownership of the MN Swarm has arranged for the University of Notre Dame and the West Point Men’s lacrosse teams to play an exhibition game in the NSC Stadium on Saturday Oct 11th at 12 Noon as part of the Hot-Dish. General Admission Ticket costs will be $10 for adults and $7 for students (college ID and younger) and include access to the two exhibition games on Saturday as well. The exhibition field next to the stadium will feature scrimmages all day between UM-Duluth, Notre Dame and West Point. There will also be a Reebok Fastest Shot and Accurate Shot interactive area run by the MN Swarm and a Coaches Clinic run by the West Point and Notre Dame coaches for Boys HS and Youth coaches on Friday night at 7:30 PM at the NSC field house next to the stadium. The fee for the Coaches Clinic is $25. For more details about the game, scrimmages, player clinic and coaches clinic visit www.mnswarm.com or call 888-MN-SWARM (888-66-79276).
Swarm season ticket holders will receive one free ticket to the game on their account and access to a special “VIP” area. Youth lacrosse players that purchase a ticket to the game will be invited to participate in a pre-game clinic featuring Swarm players. Swarm Performance Team members and Swarm players will join participants from each team in a postgame autograph session for fans.
How to register your team…. Call or email Tournament Director Mark Hellenack and request a team Registration Form. You will need to mail in a $50 deposit and the team registration form to confirm your team a spot. Mark can be reached at 952-938-2723 or
. The team fee is set at $575 a team, and also includes 20 student tickets to the Notre Dame vs. West Point game. There is an additional $50 fee for insurance if your team is not covered by US Lacrosse member insurance.
Game Format… we are looking for between 4-8 teams per division. There will be two brackets of 3-4 teams per division playing in a round robin format. The team with the best record in its bracket after round robin play will participate in the championship on Sun. The same is true for the 2nd best teams in each bracket who play for 3-4th place. So every team is guaranteed 3 games, usually 2-3 on Saturday and 1-2 on Sunday. Hot-Dish games will be played on Sat between 9am-6pm and 10am-4pm on Sun. Hot-Dish trophies (casserole dishes on trophy bases) will be awarded after each championship game.
Fund raiser for the American Cancer Society....Almost everyone in the lacrosse community has lost a loved one to cancer. The Hot-Dish is our way to help support a cure for cancer and celebrate the sport we all love. Proceeds from team fees, donations at the fields and parking lots (donation boxes), the Hot-dish Smorgasbord, Vendor Village fees, Silent Auction, and T-Shirt sales all go to support the cause.
Volunteers are needed for running each division, judging the Hot-dish contest, running the silent auction, smorgasbord and being on-field information booth workers and donation takers for the American Cancer Society. If interested contact Mark Hellenack at 952-938-2723 or
. T-shirts will be available for volunteers working 6 hours or more. The Swarm are also looking for volunteers at the stadium.
