Diary of a lacrosse addict....
I have been coaching lacrosse for over 25 years at almost every level. I grew up in suburban Aberdeen NJ (near the Jersey shore) and played my collegiate lacrosse (att) and football (o-line) at D III Kean University in Union NJ. I was convinced by my roommates from Long Island to go out for the lacrosse team my junior year because, as they put it "you can score lots of goals and hit people". As an offensive tackle who never touched the football this new sport really appealed to me. So, I practiced and fell in love with it and by my senior year I was the starting crease attack and hooked on lacrosse for life.
After graduating in 1983 I coached club, college and high school lacrosse, officiated high school and youth games, ran clinics, leagues, tournaments, All-Star games, camps and started the NJ Chapter of USLacrosse (back then it was called the Lacrosse Foundation). I was the Lacrosse man of the year in 1983 and inducted into the NJ Chapter Hall of Fame in November of 2004 for my efforts in promoting the growth of the game in New Jersey.
In 1992 I moved to Minnesota with a job transfer and started youth and high school lacrosse leagues (MBSLA) and the MN Chapter of US Lacrosse (MLA). My last coaching stint was from 2003 to 2008 (6 seasons) as head coach at St. John's University where thanks to some great players we acheived a record of 70-23 with nemerious UMLL titles and two 2nd place finishes at Nationals. Prior to St John's, I coached at Hopkins H.S. from 97 to 2002, winning two state championships in '98 and '99.
Now my job is officiating youth and high school lacrosse and running Lax Loons, Inc (www.laxloons.com). I administrate numerous summer, winter and fall leagues, camps, coach & player clinics, the Hot-Dish fall tournament, MN 100 Recruit Showcase, the Loons U17 summer travel team.
