Officials,
Thank you for helping out on the Bedford Basketball League recreation league playoffs.

Please have a pregame meeting before each game. Review the rules and have coaches understand it will likely be called tighter than what they are used to. Remind them to have players slide and don’t reach, about moving picks, and (modified) three seconds. These are the typical things the less confident refs let go. Use advantage/disadvantage as a rule of thumb.
Also, during the pregame meeting remind them that that when you call for subs for the last 5 minutes of the game there will be an official’s time out. At that time the table will reconcile playing time. No player should end the game with more than one more shift than any other player. That reconciliation is not your responsibility, it’s the table with the coaches. Anyone that has not gotten their playing time will play that last 5 minutes. When you get the thumbs up from the table resume the game. The table will be manned by BBL employees, not team parents.
A review of the rules for each division is below:
3rd/4th
2 twenty minutes halves, 3 timeouts per team can use only 2 per half.
First 10 minutes of the game must be man 2 man. One warning, after that a team foul.
No defense inside the front court three-point circle for the first 15 minutes each half, half-court defense allowed last 5 minutes each half.
(The ball must be over the plane to steal. Also, at this grade this rule persists even if the offense goes in the circle and comes back out, no D allowed)
One half-court defense violation warning in the last five minutes of each half, after that it is a personal foul on violating defender.
Three seconds called at 5 seconds.
Closely guarded only called at 5 seconds once a player picks up their dribble.
Foul shots can be taken at the first hash mark, and they can jump over.
No three-point goals, shots beyond the arc are still 2 points.
2-minute overtimes, one additional time out per overtime, any 5 players can play, there are no playing time restrictions in OT, they can sub at the table on dead balls (offense/defense).
