My my My my

Dear parents,

I am hoping that you and your families are healthy and staying safe these days.  This certainly has been the most challenging time for all of us.

Our initial plan for girls’ basketball was to focus on travel basketball as we approached the fall based on the very limited gym space that was available since the gyms within the FRSD were not available to outside organizations.  We had made arrangements to use the ARC at Newlonsburg Presbyterian however, they adjusted their policy requiring the use of masks while practicing.  In addition, the ARC has been closed in December and has continued to be closed through January.

This has prompted us to seek an alternative which I am happy to report we have.  A new facility is about to open fully dedicated to basketball….  Hustle Full Court Training – located at 3247 old Frankstown Rd in Plum in the Golden Mile Industrial Court (behind the Aldi on route 286).  This new facility will have a full court and an additional half court with hoops that will lower which will allow girls in 1st and 2nd grade to participate.  This facility is almost complete with their renovations and will be ready to open by Saturday 23rd of this month.

FRAA girl’s basketball has reserved time on Wednesday evenings as well as Saturday afternoons with a target start date of Saturday 23rd and will run through the end of March giving us a solid 10-week season with each group receiving 2 hours of basketball per week.  At this juncture, we have elected to move forward with an in-house season ONLY and forgo travel basketball.

The registration fee will be $75.

Our main mission has been to build strong basketball fundamentals which many organizations lack.  We will continue to utilize our sessions to work on skills development.  With the focus to strengthen skills/fundamentals, I believe it leads to confidence building and enjoyment for the sport.  In addition, we will spend part of the sessions playing pick up games.  My hope is to salvage what we can of the basketball season, get the girls out of the house, have a lot of fun, and grow continued interest in basketball.

We will break up the girls into the following groups:

1st & 2nd Grades (Wednesdays: 6:00 – 7:00 pm & Saturdays: 3:00 – 4:00 pm)

3rd & 4th Grades (Wednesdays: 7:00 – 8:00 pm & Saturdays: 2:00 – 3:00 pm)

5th & 6th Grades (Wednesdays: 8:00 – 9:00 pm & Saturdays: 1:00 – 2:00 pm)

Similar to last year, we will not officially draft teams however, we will break the girls up for pick up teams based on attendance for each session.  In the beginning of the season, we will primarily run the girls through skills development drills for the entire hour.  We will then move into splitting the hour between skills development and pick-up games.  For the 1st and 2nd grade girls, it will be more of a controlled game simulation managing the transition game and educating while playing.

As we did last year, we will be using the reversible practice jerseys.  If your daughter does not have one from last year or if a new size is needed, you will be able to order one via the registration at a cost of $15.  Please select the appropriate size.

As part of the registration process, you will also be required to sign a release form for the FRAA.  In addition, all parents will be required to sign a release form via Hustle Full Court Training on the first day.

No parents will be allowed to stay for practice.  Only the girls and any parent that have signed up to volunteer will be able to stay.  Volunteers will be required to wear masks the entire time.  The girls will be required to wear masks as they enter and leave practice as well as any time they are not engaged in activity.

Please have your daughter bring a basketball, as some drills will require that each girl has a ball.  All girls in grades 3rd – 6th use size 28.5.  If you do not have that particular size, bring whatever one you have at home for now, but please make sure you have the right size as soon as you are able.  If you are looking for a recommendation for a good indoor only ball, the Wilson Evolution is probably the best ball out there and can be purchased at Dicks Sporting Goods.  It is well worth the investment considering that the 28.5 ball is used for girls through high school and beyond.  1st & 2nd Grade girls will use a smaller ball - 27.5 (Youth Size).  Please put your daughter’s name on her ball to avoid any confusion.   Also, please make sure your daughter brings her own water.

Those families that previously registered for travel basketball back in November that still would like to participate in this in-house program will be refunded $25 from the original $100 charge.  Please let me know via my email address below.  You will not have to register for this program.

Conversely, if your daughter is not interested in playing in-house, a full refund will be provided.  If this is the case, please email me at vpfraagirlsbasketball@gmail.com and I will ensure the refund is processed.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.
