Drew Edmondson
13U/8th Grade Black Team

.  Coach Edmondson grew up in Falls Church, VA.  He attended Bishop O’Connell High School where he served as a manager for the Boys Freshmen team during 2001-02 and 02-03.   He then attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO.  During his four years at Missouri, Coach Edmondson earned a degree in History and African-American Studies.    He now lives in Arlington and teaches World History and Government at Bishop O’Connell. 


Coaching Experience.  Coach Edmondson began coaching at the age of 14 as an assistant coach for a 10U Braddock Road Boys and Girls League recreational team.  For the next 2 years he served as an assistant coach for the Annandale Boys and Girls Club 11U and 12U County League team.  The 12U team won the regular season division championship.  In 2002-03 Coach Edmondson served as the Head Coach of the 13U Division 2 Annandale Boys and Girls league team. 


After moving to Columbia, MO, Coach Edmondson coached 5th and 6th Grade recreational basketball from 2003 to 2006.  In the summers of 2004 and 2005, Coach Edmondson returned home to coach the Bailey’s Community Center 15U and 13U boys’ teams.  In 2006 he began coaching the 11U Rising Stars Sports Association Travel team and continued through 2007 coaching the 12u team.    


While in College Coach Edmondson also served as a Board Member of Columbia Youth Basketball Association and was the 7th grade league coordinator in 2007.  He also was the Secretary of Rising Stars Sports Association from September 2006 to August 2007. 


After returning to Northern Virginia Coach Edmondson became the Assistant Junior Varsity Girls coach for the Bishop O’Connell Girls.  For the current 2008-2009 season, Coach Edmondson serves as an Assistant coach for the O’Connell Girl’s Varsity team. 

This is Coach Edmondon's first year with the Matrix; he will be serving as the 13U Black team assistant coach for head coach John Davis, a fellow Bishop O'Connell girls' basketball coach. 


Coaching Philosophy.  Coach Edmondson is ready to add to his coaching philosophy any time he is in the gym.  He has picked ideas up from 5th Grade recreational coaches, Hall of Fame level coaches like Jerry Tarkanian and Bob Huggins and anybody in between.  He credits O’Connell Coach Jimmy Brown as being his biggest and best coaching influence, and believes Coach Brown is the most underrated coach in the DC area.  Coach Edmondson believes in adopting the best style of play for his personnel.  Player development is by far Coach Edmondson’s #1 priority in Youth Basketball.
