**These drills are divided up by age, however feel free to use both sets of drills if your child is comfortable/capable.**
6U and 8U Drills
- Wall drill to work on form

batter does not swing just does motion

hips turn/rotate but arms do not move

load bat, step with front foot, and back foot rotates so heal is facing wall but not touching it, and knee bends

Whip drill

have player get into proper stance

back elbow swings from shoulder down, like a whip motion

Expand to include back hip swinging in and knee turned in at same time moving elbow down

the girls back shoulder, elbow and knee should remain parallel to the plate

tennis ball/tire wedges to keep weight on inside big toe –) good to use when hitting off T

position wadges facing on out side of players foot so they focus on keeping their weight on the from inside toe

the stands used are for where they would be after they stride to hit.

transfer weight from back to front when swing

wedges should never move. Player should be “squishing the bug”

soft toss – always make sure your tossing to front thigh so their making contact correctly in front

pop corn kernel drill -

tosser tosses underhand pop corn kernel and the batter catches in top and (back hand)

drill is to work on seeing the ball

drop ball from above – helps player develop quicker swing

small ball (golf ball) hitting with small stick (or broom handle)

one handed back hand drill

have them on their knee front leg extended

lighter bat in back hand (choke up on bat)

ball on T and have girls swing threw

concentrate on having fingers pointed up toward sky and stop swing once make contact

once player consistently has fingers pointed toward sky have them finish swing

when this gets consistent start using a smaller ball (like baseball)

then use smaller bat and use two hands

works on waiting for ball to come to you and not lunging (good for change up practice)
