Teri Marrone
12U/7th Grade Green Team

Coach Teri Marrone

General Background.  Coach Marrone was born and raised in Alexandria, VA and picked up her first basketball at five years old.  In the spring, she’d play little league baseball as the Indians’ second baseman and in the summer, she swam for the Dolphins.  At Corpus Christi middle school, she focused more on basketball playing summer, fall and winter ball while only running track in the spring.  She joined both the Vogues and Gym Rats AAU teams and traveled up and down the East coast playing in Nationals, Junior Nationals, State Games and local tournaments throughout the seasons.

Coach Marrone was the starting varsity point guard for all four years Varsity basketball for JEB Stuart High School in Falls Church.  In the offseasons, she continued to play basketball for the Gym Rats AAU program, run track and played softball.  Teri graduated from Stuart HS and attended George Mason University.  She graduated with her BA in Communications in May 2005.

She currently plays recreational basketball for the Capital Alumni Network in the Washington DC area.  Standing at a towering 5’2”, she’s a point guard who knows every aspect of the game.  She is in her twelfth year officiating youth basketball for the Northern Virginia Catholic Youth Organization.  In this league, she met the Michael and Lisa Paul family and has enjoyed watching Michael’s kids grow!

Coaching Experience.  This is Teri’s first opportunity coaching; however, she knows that her playing, officiating and clinical experience have prepared her for all basketball situations.  She is confident in her training of physical fitness and basketball that she can help the 12U Green team grow as individuals as well as a team.  She’s very excited to meet the players and parents and hopes that this will be a fun and educational season.

Coaching Philosophy.  Teri believes in a motto she learned from Coach Finney at Marymount University- “this game starts from the ground up.”  She believes in each player having a strong foundation in the mental game in addition to the physical.  Furthermore she wants every player to know ALL positions.

“These players are still growing, in mind and body.  They might be forwards in middle school, but guards in high school.  Knowing the positions on the floor is very important.”

Teri wants all the players to give 110% but on top of all the hard work, it must be fun.  If the players aren’t having fun, then none of it is worth while.  Coach Marrone believes in open dialogue and constructive feedback both ways; so some popular phrases you’ll hear throughout the season are; ‘next play’, ‘two points Coach!’ and ‘rebound Coach!’

Teri will be assisted, part-time, this season by Matt Crosoli.
