GENERAL INFORMATION

PLAYER REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Mon June 8th 2009 for all summer Leagues

USL MEMBERSHIP:  You have to be a US Lacrosse member for the insurance component for the Summer Leagues and most camps, clinics and leagues outside of the high school spring season. Simply include your USL membership number on the registration form to avoid any additional insurance fee. Players that are not USL members must pay a $8 insurance fee that will waive the USLacrosse membership requirement and insure them for participating in the summer league.

GRADE LEVEL: The Lax Loons high school summer leagues are for players that were in the 9-12th grades in the spring of 2009. So, no 8th graders are allowed unless (exception) they played varsity or JV and have the size and skill to compete with HS players. 7-8th graders have a YML run summer league they can play in, so we discourage 8th graders playing up. If you want to play up contact Mark Hellenack at or 952-938-2723 to discuss.

LEVEL OF PLAY: Just like high school lacrosse in the spring the level of play will vary by each team you play and who shows up that night. The most important things to consider for summer league is the amount of playing time, location convenience, cost and good facilities. The Lax loons Boys HS Summer Leagues are all low cost and on week day nights in the same location (there may be some cross league games) and they don't interfere with weekends.

TEAM REGISTRATION: For now we are taking the coaches word that they will have a team. We will hold your team a spot as long as you can get a minimum of 15-25 players registered by the deadline of June 8th 2009.  Team managers and coaches must instruct their players to register on-line at www.laxloons.com (see links above) and pay by credit card or check before the June 8th deadline.

COACHE'S STIPEND: Coaches will be paid a $150-$200 stipend depending on the League, at the end of the season for coaching a team. If your team needs a coach, please let Mark Hellenack know and he will try and find a qualified college player eager to coach your team. All coaches are responsible for collecting late registration checks and verifying rosters and roster openings. Questions contact Mark Hellenack at 952-938-2723 or email

COACHES NEEDED: Not all teams will have coaches able to work this summer, so we are looking for college age or older players and coaches to be boys HS summer league team coaches. Coaches will be paid a $150-$200 stipend for the season and can also referee if they are certified.

INDIVIDUAL PLAYER REGISTRATION BUT YOUR HS TEAM IS NOT PLAYING IN THE SUMMER LEAGUE: If you want to play but your school does not have a team playing in the Summer League you must contact a team that is participating (the coach or team manager/contact) directly and ask to be placed on that team. Given the okay, all you have to do is register for that team using the on-line registration form for that team.

JERSEYS: Reversible jerseys will be provided to the coaches on the 2nd session at each Summer League location.  You must be paid and have registered with a coach to receive a jersey.
JERSEY NOTE: For the first session of summer league we ask that all players bring a reversible jersey.

WHAT IS THE SCHEDULE The schedule will be posted on Lax Loons.com by Saturday June 6th and emailed to all registered players and coaches.

RULES: All changes are on the fly (no horn) and the referees will keep time and penalties on the field (Two 25 minute halves). All other Federated H.S. Association lacrosse rules will be used (10 sec rule, etc) with the following exceptions:

a. penalties will be time and a halve, so a 30 sec tech foul = 45 sec, 1 minute = 1 1/2 min.
b. each team has one 1-minute timeout per game to stay on schedule.
c. games that are tied at the end of regulation remain tied (again to stay on schedule) or time permitting, we will use the Brave-heart tie break method (1 on 1 face-off with goalies/1st goal wins.)
d. no horns are allowed in a running-time game.
e. we will call a 45 second technical foul if the player has a legal mouth guard hanging from his facemask or partially in his mouth and call it a 1:30 minute Non Releasable personal foul otherwise, if he has no mouth guard.
f. we will be very lax (so to speak) about uniform and equipment issues like compression shorts not matching and altered shoulder pads.
g. All players are asked to show up 10-15 minute prior to their game time and be ready to play on the hour.

Severe Weather Game Cancellation Policy: Thunder/lightning storms cancel games. Rain will not. Call your On-Site Supervisor with weather questions. We will do our best to reschedule games, but can not guarantee any make-up games due to limited field availability over the summer. NOTE: If there is lightning one hour prior to game time and the field is saturated with rain the site supervisor will call the games off and contact all the team contacts. Otherwise, if these conditions do not exist, the decision to cancel will be made on site prior to the start of each game. Once a game begins, the official are in charge and will delay a game by 30 minute when they see lighting strikes nearby and only restart after the 30 minutes.
