· Joe Proud I formed TCG as a way to teach, promote and grow the game of lacrosse. I will be directing and coaching most or the sessions for all age groups.
I grew up just outside of Syracuse, NY, a region steeped in lacrosse tradition. This is where the Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) have played lacrosse for hundreds of years. I was fortunate to play at West Genesee High School, one of the most historic schools in the game, led by Coach Mike Messere, one of the top coaches in the history of our sport. I was honored to be named captain of my WG team. I then went to Duke University to study and play lacrosse. There, I was fortunate to be named captain and All-American for a top-10 Division I program.
I've been coaching lacrosse since summers in high school and college. Following graduation, I spent 17 years coaching at the college level, including being a head coach at UC Berkeley (Cal) and Vassar College. I was an assistant at Cornell, Univ. of Vermont and SUNY Plattsburgh. I led USA West, a college all-star team to the United Kingdom and Czech Republic, winning the Prague Cup. I've coached countless camps and clinics.
Since moving to Philadelphia over 6 years ago, I've served as the head coach at Harriton High School and director of lacrosse for Ashbee Lacrosse. I've worked with several local clubs, including Duke's, Duke's Nationals, HEADstrong, NXT, Old School and Fever. Lacrosse has been a huge part of my life. I look forward to sharing what I've learned with another generation of lacrosse players.
Below are some of the outstanding coaches that help make our sessions top-notch:
· Danny DeCrescenzo Coach D is the Asst. Coach for Harriton's Varsity Team. To call him an assistant is actually pretty inaccurate. I see him as mentor in more than a few ways. He was an assistant at Harriton for two years before I arrived. He's been playing and coaching lacrosse in the area for quite a while, including:
o Coach D started the St Joseph's Prep Lacrosse Team in 1996 and served as the Head Coach from 1996-2000. He was named Catholic League Co-Coach of the Year in 1997.
o Has coached the Main Line Lacrosse Club, the Keystone Lacrosse Club, various Ashbee teams, and Varsity at Woodlynde School.
o Member of the Lower Merion HS Hall of Fame with the rest of his undefeated, State Champion 1967 team.
o Co-Captain and 1st Team All-State (unanimous selection) of 1968 team
o Midfielder for Denison University (including 1969 League Championship team)
o Coach D is an all-around great person that I look up to, along with the countless others who have been coached by him.
· Tim Kauffman Coach Kauffman grew up in Havertown, playing in the Haverford Youth Lacrosse system and then at Haverford HS. He went on to become a 4-year starter and 2-year all-conference defenseman and long-stick midfielder at Widener University. Tim has continued to play post-collegiately for various local teams and tournaments.
Tim’s coaching career extends from high school varsity at Garnet Valley and Haverford HS to middle school and younger. He is currently the head coach at Bala Cynwyd Middle School, where he also teaches. Tim was the head coach of the Ashbee 7th/8th grade A1 travel team last year, doing a phenomenal job.
· Colin Fleming Coach Fleming is a Bryn Mawr native who grew up playing Ashbee since 2nd grade before going on to star at St. Joseph's Prep. He continued a stellar playing career at the University of Massachusetts, a high-level Division I program, where he was a 4-year starter at midfield. Following graduation, Colin was drafted by the Boston Cannons of the MLL. As a good a player as he is, he's a better person. He does a great job coaching kids and providing a strong role model.
