The Cusabo Nation Lacrosse mission is to expand awareness and opportunities to play youth lacrosse, increase diversity of players and affordability, and assist in providing excellent facilities, fields and instruction.
It has been an incredible year for Cusabo Nation and the Cusabo Scholars program. This Fall we expanded and formalized an after school program with the College of Charleston School of Education for ten eager boys and girls. We met these scholar-athletes in our lacrosse programs and are excited to grow our relationship with them off the field. We are honored and joyed to be able to offer resources to further their academic and personal development.
It takes a village and we’d like to introduce and thank the partners and leaders that make this program happen! Herman Robinson and his King Street Trinity Worldwide Ministries have provided transportation and immeasurable support, Joycee Darby led our efforts as the Site Coordinator, and Margaret Hagood developed the partnership with the College and mentor curriculum. Seven College of Charleston students volunteered to mentor and assist the children with schoolwork and activities. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back for the spring semester!
We are asking you to Give it! Your generosity to the Cusabo Scholars Designated Fund will help us to cover the costs of our site coordinator, transportation to the College of Charleston, insurance, and learning materials.
Our fundraising goal is $25,000 to fund the program for the 2018 calendar year. Please consider a gift to sponsor a scholar-athlete.
This season we have broken into new territory where DREAMS ARE BEGINNING TO COME TRUE, but we need you help!
The after school program Cusabo Scholars, led by Eric Strickland, has been launched at Simons Elementary. The equipment we now have and share with players at McMahon and Stoney fields have begun to change the game. To date, in the 2017 Spring Rec season, we have close to forty children playing on three teams. The demand increases daily.
Our wonderful coaches: Dan Russler, Mark Bitter, Dan Hennessey, Henry Hagerty, and Christian Simon are the real heroes! The countless hours of service, from these loving men, to these young members of our community is simply incredible!
The 14 passenger van donation from David Hudson was also a truly game changer. But, with the van comes the ongoing expenses of gas, insurance, and maintenance.
With all that being said, we are now raising money to assist Burke High School to get equipment and start a team for the 2018 Spring Season, where they will enter the SC Independent Lacrosse League - SCILLeague.org. So far the expense on this equipment is close to $5,000 and we estimate this capping out at $15,000 to fully obtain the needed gear by October of 2017. Burke's Coach Sterling is very pleased with our plans. His goal is to have the players learn to throw and catch this Spring after weight training. The goal is to be ready for Spring 2018.
All in, we are in great place and the buzz and activity is amazing to witness. But we really need all of the Nation's help.
Please join us in a capital campaign where we will raise $30,000 to cover the costs of new lacrosse equipment, travel tuitions for Cusabo Scholar players, small capital projects at the HALL II Lacrosse Complex, and help cover ongoing expenses for the remainder of 2017.
Thank you in advance for all that you have done and will do. Lax is ON in Charleston and with YOUR SUPPORT you will be doing your part to make Lacrosse available to players that would not typically get the opportunity.
Your donation will further our mission to expand awareness and opportunities to play lacrosse, provide scholarship funds, as well as assist in providing excellent facilities, fields and instruction.
