BST Frequently Asked Questions

When is the BST season?

The BST practice begins the first Tuesday and Thursday after Ski Bradford opens.  Races begin on the first Sunday in January.  The season ends at the EMBWL Championship Race, usually the last weekend in February or the first weekend in March, depending on when the 1st race is held.  For the 2019 race season, the Championship Race is March 3rd.

When does BST practice?

The Bradford Ski Team practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays, weather and conditions permitting.  Racers are broken into age groups from U8 through U19.  There are no separations by gender, ability within an age group, and no racer is assigned a specific coach.  We rotate coaches according to need. The U8's practice from 6:30 until 8:00 PM while the other groups practice from 6:30 until 8:30 PM.  Some practice may extend until 9:00 PM for those who wish to continue and when practices so dictate an advantage of doing so.

When does BST race?

The EMBWL league races on Sundays at Ski Bradford, Nashoba Valley, Ski Ward, Blue Hill from the first weekend in January to the first weekend in March. There is usually one "free" weekend and another non-race Sunday on the closing weekend of February vacation.  The league tries to assign each team 3 "home" races and three "away" races, one at each of the other ski areas.

What gear does my child to race?

Racers need skis, boots, poles, hard sided helmets, goggles, and appropriate warm clothing.  U8's may wear soft-sided helmets this year but, beginning in 2019, they will also be required to wear the hard-sided models. Those in the Enhanced Group, racing in USSA races, have other requirements which are explained in the Enhanced Section of the website.

As a racer ages and acquires more skill, there is often a move to specific skis for slalom and different ones for GS but this is not a requirement.

The team highly recommends chin guards, pole guards, and shin guards for slalom and padded suits for both slalom and GS (if you have them) even for practices.

What costs are associated with participation in BST?

In addition to the registration fee and ski equipment, lift tickets must be purchased for each practice and race. BST offers practice lift tickets for $25. Race day ticket price varies based on the location of the race hill. Season pass options are available for Ski Bradford and are offered at a discounted rate through October 15th. Visit the Bradford website for more details.
