Jeff May, VP
Baseball players currently in 7th through 9th grades have opportunities to in play in a Babe Ruth League. There is an option to try out for a traveling baseball team for 9th graders only.
BABE RUTH BASEBALL
In Babe Ruth Baseball, players play opposing teams from Edina as well as other communities. Players must be Edina residents or attend school in Edina.
The program for 7th graders is called the Babe Ruth Prep League. This league consists of players that are 13 years old as of April 30 or are completing 7th grade in the Spring . This age classification allows players to play with their school grade level if they choose to do so.
The 8th and 9th graders are combined into one program, which is called the Babe Ruth League. This league consists of players that are either 14 or 15 years old as of April 30 or are completing 8th or 9th grade in the Spring. This age classification allows players to play with their school grade level if they choose to do so.
Volunteer coaches are an important part of the baseball program. Those interested in coaching should specify their interest using the on-line form during the player registration process. Coaches clinic are underway (see Coach Certification) and league meetings will be held in April at the Edina Community Center Gym. Please consider volunteering to coach this year. For the 9th Grade/15 year old traveling teams, players born between 5/1/94 and 4/30/95, or completing 9th grade.
Players must try out to be on a traveling team. Players that try out for a traveling team but are not selected for a traveling team will automatically be placed on a Babe Ruth League team. Please check the Travel Teams page for tryout dates and other important information.
Players should not tryout for traveling unless they are committed to practicing and playing with their team for the entire season. Please carefully consider the experience and commitment you are seeking before registering.
In addition to the registration fee for traveling baseball, there are additional fees. Additional fees cover additional uniform costs, Metro Baseball League play, weekend tournaments and one state tournament. Players must be residents of Edina or attend Edina schools to meet league residency requirements.
