DAY BASEBALL

Welcome to the Edina Baseball Association program for players completing Kindergarten through 3rd grade.
Our coaches carry the belief that good coaching is good teaching, whether in the classroom or on the playing field. Our goal is to help your son or daughter discover and develop their baseball talents. This can occur by developing and enhancing his/her skills. Our coaching staff is led by experienced teachers and assisted by enthusiastic Edina High School baseball players. One set of coaches works with the entire league at a given field.
Players must be Edina residents or attend school in Edina. The leagues are organized by school grade and players play with their grade. New players may join at any grade level. Practices and skill building are incorporated into the published "game" schedules with heavier emphasis at the beginning of the season. We normally try to place kids with their schoolmates, although this is not always possible.
Rosters and schedules will be available on this page by May 15. Please check back here to find out what team your player has been assigned to. You will receive email notification also.
We are frequently asked the question: why is it day baseball? We are constrained by the availability of fields and other resources such that we cannot physically accommodate everyone in the evenings. The same fields that your child plays on during the day are used by Little Leaguers (4th, 5th and 6th graders) on weekday evenings and many Saturdays. What we recommend for working parents is that you carpool with others. You will have the schedule well in advance (mid-May) and with multiple families involved in the carpool could arrange it so each person only has to disrupt their work schedule 4 to 6 times in June and July. We are happy to try to form teams to include members of your carpool if needed. We realize this may not be ideal, but most people can make it work for them.
Players will get a team T-shirt, socks and cap on their first day. Players are expected to provide their own white baseball pants, baseball glove and wear cleats or sneakers. The league provides bats and batting helmets, but players are also welcome to bring their own.
Players in grades 1-3 are invited to sign up for a series of spring clinics to get ready for the season. This option can be selected when you register your player for day baseball. Please go to 2010 American Legion Spring Skills Clinic for more information.
