Welcome to the Home of Wayland Youth Lacrosse. the beginning of our 2010 Season is just around the corner and there continues to be much excitement around the sport of lacrosse in Wayland. Over the past 3 years we have seen significant growth in the program and have more than doubled the number of players and teams participating. Our 2009 Program has approximately 330 boys and girls from grades 1 thru 8 and consists of 16 teams.

We offer an In-Town program for 1st and 2nd grade boys and girls that plays on Saturday afternoons.

Our Town 3rd thru 8th grade teams travel to surrounding towns for games and are part of the MBYLL(boys) and FGLL(girls) Leagues. They practice two nights per week and games are played on Sunday afternoons.

 

We welcome players of all abilities including both new and experienced. Our goal is to expose as many kids as possible to the game of lacrosse and to develop both their skills and love of the sport.  While we like to be competitive we do not coach games to "win at all cost."  There are no league standings. We do not have leveled A,B& C teams.  Multiple teams within age groups are split to be balanced and of equal strength. All players will get equal playing time regardless of ability. We believe this approach encourages more kids to play and makes for a better experience for players, parents and coaches. We also believe that this will help develop better teams with more depth at both the youth and high school level.

In addition we now offer a Tournament Team for 7th and 8th graders who want to devote the spring season to lacrosse and want to experience a higher level of play. The Tournament team adds one additional Friday practice and Saturday game per week. Tournament Team players are required to play on the town team and attend all practices and games. The Tournament team has a paid (non parent) coach. Tryouts may be required depending on the level of interest. They were not required for 2009 as we were able to accommodate all 23 players that were interested.

 

Our pre-season starts in March with the regular season running from early April through late June. Our on-line registration opens on October 1st and closes on December 1st.

Wayland Youth Lacrosse is a parent run all volunteer organization. We are always looking for additional volunteers to coach and help run the organization. Please contact me if you are interested.

Registration closes December 13, 2010. There is no guarantee of placement after this date.

 

-          Grades 1 & 2: $90

-          Grades 3 to 8: $150 Oct. 1- Nov. 15th, 2009.  $195 Nov 16- Dec 13.

 

The registration fee does not include cost of uniform. Financial Scholarships are available upon request for fees and equipment. US Lacrosse registration is included. 

 

A new player clinic will be held on Sunday, November 8th at Wayland High School.

-          Girls grades 3 to 8:  1:00 to 2:00pm

-          Boys Grades 3 to 8: 2:30 to 3:30pm

 

Girl’s Youth Program Information (Season is mid-April to mid-June)

 

Grades 1 & 2 - Practice & scrimmage on Saturdays from 3:00pm to 4:30pm

Grades 3 & 4 – Practice Tues & Thurs 6:00-7:30 pm

Grades 5 & 6 – Practice Mon & Wed 6:00-7:30 pm

Grades 7 & 8 – Practice Tues & Thurs 6:00-7:30 pm

 

Games: Grades 3 to 8play Sunday afternoons, 8 game schedule- plus scrimmages

 

Equipment: Players are responsible for their own equipment including: stick, mouth guard, goggles and game jersey. Uniforms and discounts are available at Brine’s Sports in Sudbury.  We are using the same uniform as last year. 

 

Boy’s Youth Program Information (Season is April to mid-June)

Grades 1 & 2 - Practice & scrimmage on Saturdays from 1:30 to 3:00pm

Grades 3 & 4 – Practice Mon & Wed 6:00-7:30pm

Grades 5 & 6 – Practice Tues & Thurs 6:00-7:30pm

Grades 7 & 8 – Practice Mon & Wed 6:00-7:30pm

 

Games: Grades 3 to 8 play Sunday afternoons, 10 Game schedule- plus scrimmages; 

 

Equipment: Players are responsible for their own equipment including: helmet, shoulder/arm pads, gloves, stick, cup, mouth guard, cleats, and game jersey. Uniforms and discounts are available at Brine’s Sports in Sudbury. We are using the same uniform as last year.
