Welcome to another season of Sandwich Youth Lacrosse!

Your son has been selected to play on my “U11” team this spring. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Chris Darmon. Matt Cotter will be joining me in coaching this spring as well. I have been coaching lacrosse for roughly 10 years in the Sandwich program and Matt and I both played for the Sandwich Blue Knights (a long time ago). This season will include 2 practices per week and a 7-8 game schedule.

The game schedule will be posted on our website as soon as it is finalized, and I will communicate that to you once I know. Our practices will remain at the fields behind the Oakridge School and will be on Wednesday (5:30-7PM) and Saturday mornings (9-10:30AM) and will begin Wednesday March 22nd. Please be prompt for drop off and pick up. I will never leave a child alone at the field, but I do ask that you respect my time. Cancellations due to weather will be communicated through email and our website. I will try to get these out at least 1 hour prior to the scheduled start time.

Required Equipment:

  • Stick [PUT YOUR NAME ON IT- lots of kids have the exact same stick]
  • Lacrosse helmet (NOCSAE approved)
  • Mouth guard (preferably on lanyard)
  • Lacrosse shoulder pads, arm pads, and gloves
  • Athletic supporter and cup
  • Rubber soled cleats

*I am very strict when it comes to mouth guards and cups.  Please make sure your child has both during all practices and games.

Philosophy and Development Timeline:

This is a town program, we embrace all skill levels and everyone plays. We teach sportsmanship and respect of others. I do not believe in “participation trophies”, but I also place no emphasis on “the score” and winning/losing, as I feel there is plenty of time for that later in your child’s athletic career. This year we will work on fundamentals such as catching, throwing, scooping, and cradling, while learning and trying out all positions. All in all, this should be fun and should be a positive experience for your child.

Looking forward to a great season.  Please feel free to contact me throughout the season with questions/comments.  I want to know about any “issues” on or off the field.  I can’t fix a problem I don’t know about.

Thanks,

Chris Darmon
