The Portsmouth Little Clipper “B-Team” came into the Seacoast Junior Football League’s “Rumble Tournament” sporting a 7-0 record. As the only undefeated team in the B program, the Portsmouth team was the team to beat on this sunny Sunday.
The Team quickly got by the Oyster River and Sanborn teams Crowley Gentile and Damon Perkins scoring touchdowns. In game three Portsmouth faced a tough Exeter East team, scoring on both possessions and proceeded to face a Winnicunnet team with upset on their mind. The Little Clipper line (Jarrod Lugo, Kevin Palazzo, Kevin Moore, Joey Glynn, Ryan Linchey and Alex Gladu) had excellent blocking enabling running back Christian Peete and quarterback Shon Parham to execute a strong offensive set.
Moving into the afternoon with a 4-0 tournament record, the Little Clippers faced a very determined Exeter West team who lost to the Clippers 8-6 just a few weeks ago. A Clipper fumble ended the second scoring drive creating a tie and the Clippers prepared to face a strong Timberlane team who was undefeated in tournament play.
Just as they had all year the Little Clipper “B” offense stepped up to deliver two touchdowns in this key matchup. The only team standing between the Clippers and the “B Championship” was a strong Dover team who played the Little Clippers very tough in their October 25th game. In addition to a strong offense, the Little Clipper defense needed to step up and shut down a powerful Dover offense
With Coach Larry Ingram calling the offense and Coach Wade Graham running the defense, the Clippers scored twice in the final game and held the powerful Dover running game scoreless to gain the bragging rights to the SJFL’s “B Rumble” Championship. With the Dover victory, the Little Clippers finished the season with 13 wins, no losses and one tie.
