ARVADA MIDGET FOOTBALL CELEBRATES 50 YEARS
by posted 08/25/2010

Thank you to all of the family, friends, players and community that helped celebrate Arvada Days and the 50th anniversary of Arvada Midget Football.  Below is an article written by Rhonda Colbert for YourHub.com. Rhonda has three sons that play for AMFA.

Arvada Celebrates 50 years of Football and Family
by Rhonda Colbert

Arvada celebrated its 50th anniversary of youth tackle football during the sport's annual kick-off, better known as Arvada Days, on Saturday August 21, 2010. "The Arvada Midget Football Association started back in 1961, today we have 38 teams and roughly 825 players ranging from second to eighth grade," stated Jeff Glenn, President of the Arvada Midget Football Association. Glenn noted that teams from all over the metro area, from Parker to Louisville and everywhere in between, came to scrimmage Arvada's teams on this celebratory day.
Festivities took place at Arvada's home field, Long Lake Park off W.64th and Hwy. 93. Nestled in the foothills of Colorado's front range, the panoramic mountain views provided the perfect backdrop for team pictures. The seasonal kick-off event included bounce houses for the younger children, DJ music, face-painting, and numerous contests, all hosted by the league. Long Lake Park provided plenty of parking and adequate space to accommodate the many friends, family and sports enthusiasts that were in attendance. When it comes to football, it's not just the immediate family that comes; it's the neighbors, classmates, co-workers, and extended family joining in the fun.
There is certainly no mistaking a seasoned parent from a rookie, when it comes to equipment, the experienced parent is just as geared-up for football as their child. Parents came in tow with tents, umbrellas, chairs, coolers and plenty of sunscreen to beat the August heat and dehydration. Football scrimmages started at 8:00a.m. continuing through 6:00p.m., so for some parents it was a full day of football madness.
It's enjoyable to see so many parents crazy about their kids and sharing the love of football with their families. Equally admirable are the unsung heroes, the backbone and foundation of the A.M.F.A. The Arvada Midget Football Association is completely run by volunteers and supported by elected officials, whose dedication to sportsmanship, athleticism, and leadership have proven their commitment to Arvada's youth.
When asked about his personal motivation and leadership as President of A.M.F.A., "It's a team effort behind the scenes and we value each member for their contribution, our goal is to make football a positive experience for every family, while building their child's self esteem and instilling upon them life lessons about teamwork, commitment and responsibility," replied Glenn.
Congratulations A.M.F.A. and to all Arvadians who make a difference in the life of a child through sports!

When are practices and games?  There are typically 3 practices and one game per week.  Games are typically held on Saturday, although in some cases games are scheduled during week due to field availability and other schedule logistics.  Teams are scheduled to play 8 games for the season.
