posted 02/01/2010 Volunteers are needed to support and plan for the
2010 EPSC Soccer Tournaments!

July 9-11, 2010 May 16, 2010
Come be involved in the planning of the Eden Prairie Soccer Club’s tournaments. Every year we put on two tournaments. The Spring Kickoff will be on May 16th this year and is for U9-U12 teams. The Prairie Cup is our large tournament held the weekend of July 9-11 and is for U13-U19 teams. In addition to the great number of volunteers we need to work these tournaments we need a few dedicated people to help with the planning of the tournaments. Below are the committee members we need to help plan the tournament. Some of these committees can be done by a whole team and counts towards your Club volunteer requirements.
I am planning on holding a tournament meeting this Thursday, February 4th at 7:00pm at Green Mill in Eden Prairie. If you are interested in helping out with the tournament or just want more information, please come to the meeting. If you can not make the meeting and are interested in any of these positions or want more information, please contact me at
.
Thanks,
Mike Speak

posted 01/13/2010 Referee Certification/Recertification
Learn the rules.
Ref the game.
YOU MAKE THE CALL.
Refereeing is a outstanding way to create income, gain work experience,
obtain some exercise and even become an all around better player!
Referees are one of the key components to the game. They help ensure a fair and safe environment for the players, coaches, and spectators. Referees are proud of their contribution to soccer and take their appointments seriously. Their basic requirements are to gain an understanding of the spirit and the letter of the laws, carry out the game laws fairly and to cooperate with fellow officials to make the game of soccer safe and enjoyable to play and watch.
Becoming a Referee:
So what does it take to become a referee? The first step is to sign up for an entry level Grade 9 clinic where you learn about the Laws of the Game and their interpretation and enforcement as well as proper referee decorum and demeanor.
From there you can move up the grade level to state, national and FIFA levels. We recommend that new officials be at least 12 years old to take the Grade 9 clinic and at least 14 years old to take the Grade 8 clinic.
Eden Prairie Soccer Club will be hosting certification classes for new and returning referees the weekends of February 20-21 (returning only) and April 17-18 (new and returning).
There are two entry-level classes available to new USSF Officials:
Grade 9, Recreational Referee
· Certified to Referee (Center) U9 and U10 games and Assistant Referee (Line) up to U14
· 1 day (8 to 9 hours) of classroom instruction required
.
Grade 8, Referee
· Certified to referee all youth games
· 2 days (16 hours) of classroom instruction required (usually held over one weekend)
EPSC will be hosting both recertification classes both weekends, and a BRIDGE (grade 9 to 8) in April.
Clinic space is limited and all clinics fill up quickly. Register now to ensure a spot!
Check out the “Referee” section at the top of this website or email EPSC Referee Assignor, Alex Carlstedt, at
with questions.

posted 01/06/2010 New Director of Coaching and Player Development
After an extensive search, the Eden Prairie Soccer Club (EPSC) is pleased to announce that Ben Bartlett has accepted the Director of Coaching and Player Development position.
Ben currently lives just south of London, England and has been coaching soccer for 16 years. He holds The Football Association (England’s governing body for soccer) Advanced Coaching License (UEFA A) and has developed players from grass roots to the elite level, including 15 international-level players.
In arriving at its selection of Ben for the DOC position, the EPSC DOC Search Committee screened more than 70 candidates from 10 countries. The Committee was impressed with Ben’s experience, enthusiasm, and specific plans for player and coach development. With Ben leading our program, we believe the EPSC is well positioned for continued growth and success.
Ben currently serves as a Regional Coach Development Manager for The Football Association where he is responsible for player development, child-specific coaching programs, and manages a team of 14 full-time coaches.
Prior to his work with The Football Association, Ben was the general manager for the Chelsea Football Club’s women’s and girl’s programs.
The EPSC welcomes Ben and we look forward to his arrival in the fall of 2010!
We also would like to announce the immediate appointment of Peter Reid, the current Boys Technical Director, as Interim Director of Coaching and Player Development. Peter will act in this capacity until Ben Bartlett's arrival.
Peter is a native of Liverpool, England, where he grew up playing the beautiful game. A US resident since the mid-80s, Peter has coached premier level teams for a number of years and developed players from U8 and up to college entry. In addition to his new responsibilities as Interim DOC, Peter also coaches our U15 Boys Premier/MRL team.
The EPSC appreciates Peter's willingness to fill the Director of Coaching and Player Development position. His involvement will ensure a smooth transition for the EPSC during the interim period. We look forward to the knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm for teaching the game that he brings to our Club.
