Positive Coaching Seminars: ALL RBGC SPORTS
by posted 12/07/2009

Dear RBGC Baseball and Softball Coaches,

As we announced last week, the Redding Boys & Girls Club has partnered with the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) to help support coaches of every sport run by the Club.

For Baseball and Softball, we are adding the PCA workshops to the required curriculum that ALL of our Coaches must complete -- along with updated and improved Frozen Ropes sessions -- in order to coach in 2010. The primary focus of the PCA workshops is to help us strike the balance between preparing our kids to compete and win, while also teaching them life lessons on the field. And as you already know, the Frozen Ropes sessions are intended to help us teach baseball and softball skills.

This coming season, we are requiring every coach to attend one PCA Workshop and one Frozen Ropes clinic. And, to make these requirements easier on all of us, we will hold at least two sessions of each here in Redding, rather than asking you to spend two hours a week for three consecutive weeks at the Frozen Ropes facility in Danbury.

Also, we have invited the head coaches of the Joel Barlow High baseball and softball programs to lead sport-specific breakout meetings at the first PCA session. That said, we strongly encourage you to attend the first PCA Workshop on January 9, in order to take part in the baseball and softball breakout meetings with coaches Jeff Rago and Annmarie Gorman.

Please RSVP by returning this email to me.
Again, the first PCA Workshop will be held:

The first PCA session will be held:

Saturday, January 9, 2010
1:30 PM to 3:30 PM
Joel Barlow High School Auditorium

The second PCA session will be held:

Saturday, February 27, 2010
12 PM  to 2 PM
Joel Barlow High School
Auditorium

Subsequent PCA sessions and Frozen Ropes clinics will be held in February and March, and we will announce the specific dates, soon. For more information about the Positive Coaching Alliance, you can visit the PCA web site: www.positivecoach.org.

Once again, thanks for volunteering all your time and energy to coach our young baseball and softball players. Everyone really appreciates the effort you've all given in the past and hopefully will continue to invest in the future.

Thank you,

Carlos Collazo,
Executive Director
Redding Boys & Girls Club

Dear Redding Parents and T-Ball Players,

Believe it or not, we are now planning our Spring T-Ball Program for 2010! And to help us get started we are offering an early registration discount for families who sign up their future baseball or softball stars by January 15, 2010.

Our RBGC T-Ball Program is designed to properly introduce your child to the fundamentals of baseball and softball, while maximizing activity and fun on the field for everyone … kids, parents and coaches. Our Spring 2010 T-Ball Program will include:

“Fun Friday” Clinics
Building on the “jamboree” style practice sessions we held last season -- which included help from instructors at the Frozen Ropes Baseball/Softball Training Center -- we are planning new “Fun Fridays” with better organized drill stations designed to teach basic baseball/softball skills (hitting, fielding, throwing) in a fun and active way.

Improved Clinics for Coaches
To help support and prepare our volunteer coaches, the Boys & Girls Club will again offer a series of free Coaching Clinics at Frozen Ropes, in addition to new sessions conducted by the Positive Coaching Alliance. Customized instruction will include on-field assistance from professional Frozen Ropes coaches, suggested practice plans, and tips on how to make games and practice drills fun for our kids.

•    Team Announcement Night with new raffle prizes.
•    Jerseys, caps, pants, and socks for kids to keep.
•    Participatory trophies for everyone.
•    End of the season BBQ at the Boys & Girls Club.

Our T-Ball Division is open to boys and girls ages 4-6 (Pre-K and Kindergarten). Registration is $135 per child. Early registration is $125. Register online by clicking here
