From the Arapahoe Youth League

The AYL Basketball League hopes this email finds you safe and in good health. The AYL board has been meeting regularly since last July in trying to develop and manage the 2020-2021 basketball season. Due to the known state, county and school district restrictions we have postponed the season several time since our annual start time in November. Given the current state of all school districts affiliated with AYL being in the Orange Covid status and the denial of many permits by several schools, we have decided to cancel the 2020-2021 winter basketball season.

Basketball is one of two sports that is played indoors which holds us to more restricted and unfortunate parameters. We understand many other leagues are starting up soon with strict limitations in place however more than 98% of our league games are played at schools versus recreation centers and private facilities.

However, the AYL board is excited to announce that we will be implementing a new league for summer 2021. We are looking to begin the season in May with first games being played on June 5th through the end of July. We are anticipating games being played in High School and Middle School gyms for grade levels 2nd through 8th. Players who complete 8th grade this school year will be eligible to participate on an 8th grade team for the Summer League only. We also plan to have our 2021-2022 season begin in November 2021. More to come on this so please check with your club for more information.

The AYL would like to thank you all for your interest and patience as we all try to get through these trying times. Our goal is to create a fun, healthy and safe environment for all of our kids and coaches.

BOYS and GIRLS BASKETBALL

Thank you for your interest in the CCYS basketball program. CCYS offers a basketball program for both boys and girls that competes against other youth clubs in the AYL (www.aylsports.org). Participation is available to youth grades 2nd through 8th. We hope that you will join us for another great basketball season!

Games and Practices: Overview
Practices begin in early November and will be held at Cherry Creek Schools in the Denver Tech Center area on weeknights (usually 2 practices a week). Coaches decide their practice schedules (based on availability) and are subject to change. Games begin in November and have a 2 week break over the holidays. The season runs through the middle of February. Games are held on Friday evenings and/or Saturdays. Weather closures and school schedule changes can alter practice and game schedules so please be aware!

Registration for the Regular Season:
The cost for early registration is $375.00 and will include a preseason clinic in early November (time and location to be finalized soon). After October 10th, 2019 registration fees will increase to $400.00 and will be accepted only if there is still space on a team. Teams fill fast! Register early!

REFUNDS: There is an automatic $25.00 fee on all refunds up to October 26th, 2019.  After October 26th, 2019,  there will be no refunds for ANY reason, INCLUDING injury or scheduling conflicts. Uniforms are considered a separate cost. Since uniform purchases are handled through another vendor, we do not refund any uniform purchase and those seeking a refund for uniform purchases will need to deal directly with the vendor.

If you are requesting to be on a particular team with an assigned coach, please note that information in the special requests area online.  If you do not have an existing team to request, we will assign you to a team and you will be contacted by the coach or a representative of CCYS prior to the start of practices. We work to find the best fit for every player and try to group players based on neighborhood, school attended, and requests of friends who would like to play together. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee team placement.

Coaches:
Head coaches are required to submit a Coaches Application by October 1st, 2018 by email to contact@creeksports.com  If you have already coached another sport with CCYS in 2018 and have submitted your application, you are not required to submit another one. Please email any interest in coaching to contact@creeksports.com. We are always looking for great coaches!

Uniforms: Information to be posted shortly. We will be hosting fitting days for those who need new uniforms. *Note: You DO NOT need to purchase a new uniform if your uniform from last season fits correctly. Only those that are new to CCYS, lost their previous uniform, or have grown out of (they grow like weeds don’t they?) need to purchase a new uniform.

Levels of Play:

Division 1: This level of competition is intended for kids who have been playing basketball consistently and understand fundamentals of ball handling and basic game rules.  Teams that have played together in other leagues for at least 1 year should consider playing at this level.   Returning AYL teams that have a greater than 50% winning record AND 60% or more of their players returning are encouraged to play at this level.

·      Division 2: This level of competition is intended for kids who desire a competitive basketball experience but may not have been playing on a consistent team in previous years or are just moving up from a recreational league.

The Creek Sports basketball program grants our volunteer coaches the option of forming their own teams without players evaluations or tryouts.  Through this process we can end up with several players not aligned to a team.  We call those players free agents.  We will typically find a team for free agent players however occasionally free agents go unassigned and do not end up on a team.  There are a few reasons why this can happen.  Typically, it’s due to roster sizes, player skill level, and late registrations.   We will do our best to provide your child an opportunity to play however please understand there is a possibility we will not be able to assign each free agent to a team. Please, please register early so that we can work to get everyone placed.

We are looking forward to a great season and we hope that you will join us!
